Return to the Lord

So this morning I have decided to begin reading Zechariah. For the next few weeks or months I will enter sporadic comments on what I have read and learned from this book.

Zechariah 1

A Call to Return to the LORD

1 In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Zechariah son of Berekiah, the son of Iddo:
2 "The LORD was very angry with your forefathers. 3 Therefore tell the people: This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Return to me,' declares the LORD Almighty, 'and I will return to you,' says the LORD Almighty. 4 Do not be like your forefathers, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.' But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the LORD . 5 Where are your forefathers now? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 But did not my words and my decrees, which I commanded my servants the prophets, overtake your forefathers?
"Then they repented and said, 'The LORD Almighty has done to us what our ways and practices deserve, just as he determined to do.'"

My desire is to fall in love with God all over again. With new convictions and commitments. I don’t want to just read the word instead I need to apply it my life. I feel confident that if I try to grow in God he will make the path open for me to fall in love with him again. Pleasant or not God will always treat us as we deserve to be treated. He will discipline us as he should because he is a just God (Zechariah 1:6b). He values our repentance, we are like a lost child coming home.

Many of my friends have made a conscious decision to leave God. I pray that they will find their God again and return to the Lord. I have always thought of the world and the lives we live as a difficult endeavor, how do we survive in it without the guidance and shield of God and his word? Anyway, I hope you will join me in a commitment to being in the word and aware of his presence.
